Best Young Scientist Award 2024 Winner: Associate Prof. Dr. Ho Wan Yong from University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus.
Associate Prof. Dr. Ho is a graduate of Universiti Putra Malaysia and has won numerous awards in the past, including the Malaysia Toray Science Foundation Science & Technology Research Grant in 2010 and the MAKNA Cancer Research Award in 2013. She has contributed to significant progress in cancer stem cell research through her work on 3D models for high-throughput screening. In addition, she is leading research projects on microRNA and exosomes in breast cancer, with the aim of uncovering new biomarkers and therapeutic agents. She is listed as among the top 2% of most cited scholars on 2023 Stanford list and is an associate editor for BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies.
Distinguished Scientist Award 2024 Winner: Dr. Tan Boon Chin from Universiti Malaya.
Dr. Tan has contributed significantly in field of agricultural research through his research on plant molecular biology and biochemistry. His research focuses on using gene editing and bio-stimulants to improve crop tolerance to climate stress. His work includes producing bioactive compounds from plant biosynthetic pathways manipulation and using plants for recombinant pharmaceutical proteins. Furthermore, he also develops education programmes on sustainable agriculture and plays an advisor role to policymakers. He has served as the Lead Consultant of the National Biosafety Policy and is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Plant Growth Regulation (JPGR), and holds other editorial roles in journals such as BMC Plant Biology and Molecular Technology. He has also been appointed President of the Malaysian Society of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and the Honorary Secretary of the Asia Oceania Agricultural Proteomics Organization (AOAPO), and is a council member of multiple scientific societies.
