AUTHORSHIP POLICY

a. Introduction

At the Asia-Pacific Journal of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (APJMBB), we adhere to the highest ethical standards in research and publication. Ensuring proper authorship is a critical aspect of this commitment. This policy outlines the criteria and responsibilities associated with authorship.

b. Criteria for Authorship

To qualify for authorship, individuals must meet all the following criteria:

  • Substantial Contribution: Significant contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.
  • Drafting or Revising: Involvement in drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content.
  • Approval: Final approval of the version to be published.
  • Accountability: Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

c. Order of Authors

  • Corresponding Author: The corresponding author is responsible for communicating with the journal during the submission, peer review, and publication process.
  • First Author: Typically, the individual who has made the most significant contribution to the work.
  • Order of Co-authors: The order of co-authors should reflect the relative contributions of each individual to the work.

d. Acknowledgment of Non-author Contributions

Individuals who contributed to the work but do not meet all the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged in the manuscript's acknowledgement section. Examples include technical support, writing assistance, and general support.

e. Changes in Authorship

  • Adding or Removing Authors: Any changes to the list of authors (adding or removing authors) after the initial submission must be approved by all authors, including those being added or removed.
  • Requests: Requests for changes must be submitted to the editorial office with a detailed explanation and a statement of agreement from all authors.

f. Conflict of Interest

All authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest, including financial, personal, or professional relationships that could influence the work.

g. Ethical Considerations

  • Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their work is original and free of plagiarism.
  • Duplicate Publication: Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently.
  • Data Integrity: Authors must ensure the integrity and accuracy of the data presented in the manuscript.

h. Corresponding Author Responsibilities

The corresponding author is responsible for:

  • Submission: Ensuring the manuscript is complete, including all necessary documentation.
  • Communication: Acting as the primary contact for all communications with the journal.
  • Coordination: Coordinating responses to reviewers' comments and ensuring all co-authors are informed of the manuscript's progress.

i. Disputes

Any dispute regarding authorship should be resolved collaboratively by the authors. If an agreement cannot be reached, the journal's editorial board may be consulted to facilitate a resolution.

j. Use of AI in Writing Scientific Papers

Authors are permitted to use AI tools to assist in the writing of their scientific papers. However, the following guidelines must be adhered to:

  • Transparency: Authors must clearly disclose the use of AI tools in the preparation of their manuscript. This includes specifying which AI tools were used and how they contributed to the writing process.
  • Authorship and Accountability: The use of AI does not replace the role of the authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the content of their manuscript, including the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the work. AI tools should be used to support and enhance the authors' work, not to generate content independently.
  • Ethical Considerations: Authors must ensure that the use of AI tools complies with ethical standards and does not result in plagiarism or the misrepresentation of data. All AI-generated content must be thoroughly reviewed and verified by the authors.
  • Acknowledgement: Any use of AI tools should be acknowledged in the manuscript, either in the acknowledgements section or in a dedicated statement within the manuscript.

Example statement: "The authors acknowledge the use of [AI tool name] for [specific purpose, e.g., language editing, data analysis] in the preparation of this manuscript."

By adhering to these guidelines, authors can ensure the responsible and ethical use of AI in scientific writing.
